Iran sends humanitarian aid to Syria

Iran has dispatched the fourth consignment of humanitarian supplies, including medicines and medical equipment, to Syria to help people affected by the unrest in the Arab country.

According to Press TV, the consignment was delivered to officials from Syria’s Health Ministry on Sunday.
Deputy Iranian Ambassador to Damascus Abbas Golrou said “The Islamic Republic of Iran has sent medicines, medical equipment and a few ambulances to Syria.”
He stressed the importance of helping Syrian patients as a “humanitarian and moral duty” at the current juncture when Damascus is suffering from economic sanctions.
The United States, Europe Union and their allies have imposed sanctions on Syria over the unrest in the country.
Syria’s Deputy Minister of Health Raef Yasin, for his part, said the West’s economic sanctions against his country have led to a reduction of medicines for refractory diseases.
He appreciated Iran’s great humanitarian aid for the Syrian people.
Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since 2011.
