Iran SNSC secretary meets with Afghan president
Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Saeed Jalili has met with the Afghan President Hamid Karzai in Afghanistan’s capital city, Kabul.

During the Saturday meeting, Jalili pointed out that the strong ties between the governments of Iran and Afghanistan are based on deep and historical friendship between the two nations.

He further expressed satisfaction at the establishment and strengthening of the national government in Afghanistan, stressing that Iran is ready to help the Afghan nation in different areas.

Karzai, for his part, said relations between Iran and Afghanistan are at an excellent level.

The Afghan president also noted that Tehran-Kabul ties have been bolstered in recent years due to the demand of the two nations and the efforts made by the two countries’ governments.

Jalili arrived in the Afghan capital after a three-day visit to India where he held talks with his counterpart, Shivshankar Menon.

During his three-day visit, the SNSC secretary also held meetings with Indian Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid and Minister of Finance Palaniappan Chidambaram and discussed ways to expand mutual relations.

He also attended a press conference in the Indian capital city, New Delhi, on Friday during which he lashed out at the United States sanctions on Iran, saying the age of Washington’s unilateralism in the world is over.
