Iran Speaker: Regional issues solvable through dialogue

Majlis (Parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani said on Sunday that regional issues can be solved through dialogue and there is no need for foreign interference.

He made the remarks in the farewell ceremony of Qatari outgoing ambassador in Tehran, Ali bin Hamad al-Sulaiti, where he appreciated his activities during his mission, saying that he had tried to boost bilateral ties, especially in the fields of politics and economy.

Condemning siege of Qatari as a wrong move, Larijani said that regional problems should be resolved through dialogue.

“Foreign powers should not be allowed to interfere in regional affairs to be able to get regional nations stuck in their plots,” he said.

Sulaiti, for his part, thanked the Iranian nation and government, saying that his country is grateful to Tehran for not leaving it alone when a siege was imposed on it.

The next ambassador will also seek to help promote ties in political and economic arenas, he said.

Sulaiti served as Qatari ambassador in Tehran since 2013 but he will hand over the job to Mohammad Sa’d al-Fahid al-Hajari under a decree by the kingdom’s emir.
