Iran stands by causes, defends legal rights

As the US is trying to win international consensus for sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program, a senior Iranian lawmaker warns that Tehran will stand firmly by its cause.

“The Iranian nation conveys this message to arrogant and bullying powers that it will firmly support its independence, freedom and ideals,” said Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel on Monday in a speech on the occasion of the start of ceremonies marking the 31st anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran.

“We will not bow to pressure [of bullying powers] concerning our legal right to peaceful nuclear technology,” he added.

Haddad-Adel said the Iranian nation’s response to world powers is: “Independence, freedom and the Islamic Republic!”

The lawmaker also described unity as the key to the victory and maintenance of the Islamic Revolution.

He underlined that any attempt to undermine national unity would play into the hands of the nation’s enemies.

On Monday, Iran and many other countries held special ceremonies to mark the first day of the Ten-Day Dawn period, which culminated the overthrow of the Pahlavi regime, and the 31st anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran.

On February 1, 1979, the late leader of the Islamic Revolution and the founder of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Rouhollah Khomeini, arrived at Mehrabad International Airport after spending 15 years in exile. Millions of enthusiastic Iranians warmly received Imam Khomeini and within ten days, the Islamic Revolution became victorious in Iran.
