‘Iran successful in attracting investment’

An Iranian lawmaker says the government has been successful in increasing exports and attracting foreign investments over the last year.

Head of Iran’s Majlis (Parliament) Agriculture, Water and Natural Resources Committee Abbas Rajaee, added Wednesday that the government has managed to increase foreign investment in domestic development projects.

Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Shamseddin Hosseini recently said that Iran no longer makes a distinction between domestic and foreign firms that wish to purchase state-run companies.

He added that Iran is planning to allow private firms to manage state-owned companies and there are special incentives for those who promote and attract foreign capital.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has confirmed that Tehran is committed to a continued transition toward a viable and efficient market economy.

The IMF has praised the Iranian government for its divestment program, which transfers the ownership of state assets into private hands.
