Iran, Tajikistan to sign defense MOU

Iranian Defense Minister Brig. Gen. Ahmad Vahidi says the Islamic Republic and neighboring Tajikistan will sign a memorandum of understanding on defense cooperation.

Vahidi, who arrived in Dushanbe for a two-day visit on Wednesday night, said that he and his Tajik counterpart will sign the agreement during the visit, IRNA reported.

He stated that Iran believes that bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the countries of the region can secure the interests of these countries.

“Iran and Tajikistan share the same history, culture, and language and have strong ties in the political, economic, defense, and security spheres,” Vahidi added.

He went on to say that the leaders of the two countries are determined to enhance the level of ties between Iran and Tajikistan.

During his stay in Dushanbe, the Iranian defense minister will hold talks with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and other senior officials.
