Iran Tightens Border Control for Elections

A1128547 Iran plans to tighten border monitoring and control to prevent suspicious moves at the time of presidential elections in June, commander of the Iranian border guards announced on Saturday.

“The greatest activity of the border guards (unit) this year is preserving security of the elections and we will prevent preparation of any possible ground for insecurity at the time of election in the country by controlling border crossings,” General Hossein Zolfaqari said.

Yet, the General underlined that no suspicious move has, thus far, been reported from the country’s borders.

He said that his unit plans to employ new border control equipment and systems to empower its monitoring and control over border activities.

Iran will hold city councils and presidential elections on June 14. Presidential hopefuls will register from May 7 to 11.
