Iran to Emerge Victorious in Economic War Waged by US: Cleric

Tehran’s Provisional Friday Prayers Leader Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami shrugged off the US government’s sanctions against Iran and said like in the past 40 years, the Islamic Republic will emerge victorious in the current economic war.

For the past 40 years, there has been no let-up in the US campaign against Iran, Ayatollah Khatami said, addressing a gathering of worshipers in Tehran on Friday.

However, with the grace of God, the Iranian nation has been victorious and shattered the US government’s delusions of grandeur, he added.

Since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, four wars were launched against Iran, each in every decade, the cleric said, adding that the great nation of Iran managed to gain victory in these wars and will emerge victorious once again in the economic war.

The remarks came as US President Donald Trump’s administration on Thursday stopped issuing waivers that allowed some countries to continue buying Iranian oil.

In remarks on April 24, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said the US’ attempts to block the export of Iranian oil will get nowhere as Tehran will be exporting any amount of crude it needs and wants.

Describing a cut in Iran’s reliance on the export of oil as an opportunity, the Leader said such an opportunity will be used for further reliance on internal capabilities.
