Iran to enhance contact with expats

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast says the government should maintain strong ties with the Iranians living in other countries.

“Iranians outside of the country are a large number [of people] and have great economic, scientific and cultural qualities…,” Mehmanparast said.

”In meetings with the Iranian expatriates we made an effort to bring these resources to the attention of officials so that we could optimally utilize their capabilities through constructive communication,” he added.

Mehmanparast also stressed the importance of having enhanced communication channels with Iranians living outside of the country in order to maintain a vibrant relationship.

He said Iran’s consular offices across the world hand the inquiries of citizens and facilitate easy travel to and from the Islamic Republic.

The foreign ministry spokesman went on to request increased efforts from the government and called for mapped out long-term and short-term plans for communicating with Iranians living abroad.

In March 2010, Iran’s Ministry of Justice announced the launch of a phone line that directly deals with the legal problems of Iranian immigrants in other countries.
