Secretary of Iran Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili says the Islamic Republic will help Syria to stand against plots by global arrogance.

Addressing reporters in Syria’s capital, Damascus, on Saturday, Jalili said Iran would continue supporting the Syrian government.

The Iranian official added that Muslim and Arab countries should do everything in their power to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people as Syria is the front line in the fight against Israel.

Jalili arrived in Damascus on Saturday to hold talks with the senior Syrian officials regarding recent developments in the Arab country.

Condemning Tel Aviv’s recent attack on the Arab country, Jalili said, “Israel tried to exact revenge on people who have stood against aggressors by [launching] aerial attack on Syria.”

On Wednesday, the Syrian army said in a statement that two people were killed and five others injured in an Israeli airstrike on a research center in Jamraya, near the capital, Damascus. Israel declined to comment on the issue.

Following the assault, Iran’s Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi warned of an international plot in Syria and urged a serious reaction to Israel’s strike.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March 2011. Many people, including large numbers of security personnel, have been killed in the violence.

The Syrian government says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the militants fighting the Syrian government are foreign nationals.
