Iran to pursue death of two pilgrims in Saudi Arabia: Deputy FM

An Iranian deputy foreign minister says Iran’s Consulate General in Jeddah is following up on the recent car crash which led to the deaths of two Iranian pilgrims.

“Iran’s Consulate General is in close contact with the Saudi side (officials) and has been following up on the issue since the Iranian pilgrims were killed,” Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular, Parliamentary and Iranian Expatriate Affairs Hassan Qashqavi said Saturday.

Qashqavi said no official cause of accident has been established by Saudi officials, who have requested more time to investigate the issue.

Earlier, Chairman of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Alaeddin Boroujerdi said a Foreign Ministry delegation would travel to investigate the incident.

Two Iranian pilgrims were killed and four others were injured after a service truck crashed into a passenger lounge at Jeddah international airport in Saudi Arabia on Thursday, reports quoted the Saudi Civil Aviation Authority as saying on Friday.

Two of the wounded pilgrims were treated on the spot and were able to board a flight to Tehran. The other two were hospitalized.
