Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular, Parliamentary and Expatriates Affairs Hassan Qashqavi announced that the ministry is planning to send a delegation to Saudi Arabia to probe into the Mina tragic incident.

“A special Foreign Ministry delegation comprised of top FM and Red Crescent managers will be sent to Saudi Arabia,” Qashqavi said.

He reiterated that the major responsibility of the Foreign Ministry’s special delegation will be clarifying the fate of the missing Iranian pilgrims.

A stampede during one of the last rituals of the Hajj season killed more than 2,000 people and left 2,000 wounded.

The stampede occurred during the ritual known as “stoning the devil” in the tent city of Mina, about two miles from Mecca.
Some 131 Iranians have also lost their lives in the incident, while 150 others have been wounded.

Leader of the Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei declared three days of national mourning over the death of the pilgrims.
