Iran to take part in GECF Doha meeting

Iran will take part in the upcoming meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in the Qatari capital city of Doha on November 13-15, Iran’s representative to GECF says.

Seyyed Mohammad Ali Khatibi told Shana news agency that during the twelfth gathering of GECF members in the Egyptian capital of Cairo on June 4, Qatar was chosen to host the next meeting of natural gas producing countries.

The Doha meeting is to host the ministers and heads of state, the Iranian envoy further explained.

Khatibi said that the Cairo meeting was “positive” and had discussed “the latest gas price changes” in global markets.

“There is a need to regulate the price of natural gas with oil,” he went on to say.

GECF includes eleven member countries while three other states attend the meeting as observers.

The forum assumes 42 percent of the global gas production, 70 percent of global gas reserves, 38 percent of gas pipelines and 85 percent of LNG trade.

Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela are the eleven members of the GECF.

Iran has the world’s second biggest reserves of gas in the world after Russia.
