Iran unveils new medicines

Iran unveiled three newly-developed drugs produced by researchers at Chemistry Faculty of Razi University, western Iran.

Iranian Minister of Science, Research and Technology Kamran Daneshjou, Tehran Governor Morteza Tamaddon and some researchers of the university attended the unveiling ceremony.

The drugs were formerly imported from other countries. Minoxidil, one of the unveiled medicine, has been produced in the form of tablet for blood pressure treatment. The other drug, Montelukast, is used for asthma treatment.

The final one, Sodium thiopental, is applied for seizures after anesthesia.

Production of the drug at the time of sanctions is economical and saves the country’s foreign currency.

Iran has made great progress in recent years in producing many types of drugs and medical equipment. The country is after decreasing its reliance on foreign goods and gain self-sufficiency in different medical domains.
