Iran Ups Power Supply to Turkey

Iran’s electricity export to Turkey has witnessed an eye-catching increase, a senior Energy Ministry official announced on Monday.
“Iran’s power exports to Turkey have increased to 400 megawatts,” Deputy Energy Minister Mohammad Behzad told FNA today.

He noted that Iran can even increase its electricity export to Turkey to 1,200 megawatts

“Iran’s power supply to the neighboring countries with which Iran has power swap deal has taken an ascending order in the last few years in such a way that it witnessed a 30 percent rise last year,” Behzad said.

The Islamic Republic is currently exporting electricity to Armenia, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Nakhichevan, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Earlier in May, Behzad also announced that the country’s electricity exports have increased 40% since the beginning of the current Iranian year, and said Tehran has signed several contracts with the neighboring states to export electricity.

He said Iran is expected to export about 10bln kilowatts of electricity in the current Iranian year.

Behzad also said Iran has signed several contracts with its neighboring countries in this regard, which will help boost its electricity exports.
