The Iranian Foreign Minister has called for collective international cooperation to combat terrorism.

“It is necessary that different counties work together towards solutions that would curb the spread and development of terrorism,” Mohammad Javad Zarif said in a meeting with Jordanian Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour in Amman.

Zarif also stressed the policy of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s administration to promote the campaign against extremism and efforts to cause religious rifts.

He said that regional issues, including the ongoing crisis in Syria, need to be resolved through a prudent and realistic approach.

Crisis has gripped Syria since March 2011. According to the statistics compiled by the United Nations, more than 100,000 people have been killed and millions of others displaced due to the turmoil.

Zarif also said he was happy to see a new chapter is opening in Iran-Jordan relations.

The Jordanian premier, for his part, pointed to Tehran-Amman common interests and stressed the enhancement of bilateral relations.

Commenting on the developments in the Middle East, Ensour branded terrorism as an enemy of regional countries.

Highlighting Iran’s key role in the region, the Jordanian premier described Tehran-Amman cooperation as significant for both sides.

Zarif is on a tour of the Middle East, which has so far taken him to Lebanon, Iraq and Jordan, to discuss regional developments. He left Jordan for Syria on Wednesday morning.
