Iran urges neighbors to secure borders

Neighboring countries should make more effort to provide the security and maintain control over their common borders with Iran, lawmaker Parviz Sarvari says.

“We have received news about the situation of counterrevolutionary and seditionist elements beyond the borders of Iran,” member of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission said in Mahabad on Wednesday.

Sarvari added that by coordinating with neighboring countries and taking necessary measures, illegal crossings should be prevented and border security should be increased, Mehr News Agency reported.

The Iranian lawmaker pointed to the effective supervision of the country’s security forces on the border and said, “We expect neighboring countries to pay attention to stationing security forces in these areas.”

Sarvari along with two other members of the Majlis commission arrived in the northwestern Iranian city of Mahabad on Wednesday to address the recent terrorist attack in the city.

A bomb explosion in West Azarbaijan Province on September 22 left 12 people dead and 80 others injured. The terrorist attack took place where people were watching a military parade.

Sarvari said that the enemies are trying to portray Iran’s impoverished areas as insecure through this attack, but they were not able to achieve their objectives.

Last week Iranian Intelligence Minister Heidar Moslehi said that the group behind the terrorist attack has been identified and that the required information has been passed on to different bodies to keep them vigilant on the Mahabad incident.

Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) on Sunday killed the main elements behind the terrorist attack.
