Iran urges political solution to Syria

Iran’s Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has stressed the importance of restoring peace in Syria, urging the necessity of a political solution to resolve the ongoing unrest in the Arab country.

According to IRIB, in a meeting with the visiting deputy chairman of Syria’s National Coordination Committee for Democratic Change Haytham Manna in Tehran on Monday, Salehi said Syrian-Syrian talks between the government and opposition groups would end the country’s crisis.
He briefed the Syrian official on Iran’s efforts at regional and international levels to restore peace in Syria, saying, “The current situation in Syria is not beneficial to any of the involved parties.”
Salehi added that certain foreign meddling moves which aim to deepen political and religious differences in Syria are in line with politically-motivated objectives of ill-wishing countries.
The Iranian minister noted that a meeting on the national dialogue in Syria which was recently held in the Iranian capital, Tehran, further underlined Iran’s views including necessity of finding a Syrian-Syrian solution, preventing violence, assuaging the Syrian people’s sufferings, and providing an appropriate ground for the implementation of democratic trend in the crisis-hit country.
Manna, for his part, hailed as positive the Islamic Republic’s efforts and measures to resolve the ongoing crisis in Syria.
