Iran, Uruguay urge better economic ties

Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani has called on Iran and Uruguay to utilize resources at their disposal to expand economic cooperation between the two countries.

In a meeting with the visiting Uruguayan parliament speaker, Ivonne Pasada, Larijani said the “economic ties between the two countries must expand to the level of their political cooperation.”

Larijani said the industrial, agriculture and energy sectors were the most important areas where the two sides should expand friendly cooperation.

Regarding the current situation in the Middle East the Iranian parliament speaker said occupying forces have been a source of terrorism and have led to the destruction of Afghanistan and Iraq.

Pasada praised the current level of ties between the two countries and called on both parliaments to encourage their governments to expand cooperation.

The Uruguayan parliament speaker arrived in Tehran on January 17 upon an invitation from Larijani.

She is scheduled to meet with the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as well as other officials during her four-day visit.
