Iran Voices Regret over US Decision to Train Terrorists in Syria

Iran on Sunday reiterated opposition to the use of military options in Syria, and voiced regret over Washington’s decision to train terrorists and supply them with more advanced weapons to fight in the Middle-Eastern country.

Addressing the second ‘Friends of Syria’ conference – attended by the chairpersons of the national security and foreign policy commissions of the parliaments of those countries which have friendly relations with Syria – in Tehran on Sunday, Chairman of the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi voiced deep regret over the US policy on Syria.

“We have convened in here to declare to the world that we are opposed to the war in Syria and to voice our regret over the US decision to train terrorists and send them more advanced weapons and to condemn it,” he underlined.

He also expressed the pleasure that each day a growing number of states join the opponents of war in Syria and call for a political solution to the crisis in the country.

Boroujerdi referred to the presence of Takfiri and Salafi fighters in Syria, and said, “Undoubtedly, the phenomenon of Takfirism is an anti-Islamic and inhuman move as Islam is totally in opposition to such acts.”

The conflict in Syria started in March 2011, when sporadic pro-reform protests turned into a massive insurgency following the intervention of western and regional states.

The unrest, which took in terrorist groups from across Europe, the Middle-East and North Africa, has transpired as one of the bloodiest conflicts in recent history.

As the foreign-backed insurgency in Syria continues without an end in sight, the US government has boosted its political and military support to Takfiri extremists.

Washington has remained indifferent to warnings by Russia and other world powers about the consequences of arming militant groups and has vowed to increase attempts to train and supply them with more weapons.
