Iran vows to continue uranium enrichment

Iran’s ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency says Tehran will continue to exercise its right to enrich the uranium it needs for peaceful purposes.

Speaking to Press TV on Monday, Ali Asghar Soltaniyeh put in words a political message to Western powers who had questioned Iran’s motive behind the construction of its new nuclear enrichment plant in Fordo.

The Iranian nuclear official said the construction of the Fordo nuclear plant has a single political message which says that “Iran at any price would not suspend its enrichment” activities.

Iran, a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), says its activities are aimed at the civilian applications of the technology.

The country faces pressure to halt its nuclear enrichment, as world powers claim the program is aimed at building a nuclear bomb.

Tehran, however, has denied seeking nuclear weapons and called for the removal of all weapons of mass destruction from across the globe.

Meanwhile, the IAEA in its latest report released on Monday once again confirmed “the non-diversion of declared nuclear material in Iran.”
