Iran waged no war in modern history

Germany’s Germany’s Left Party Vice President says Iran has never initiated a war during the whole modern history.

In modern history, Iran has never started any war and the 8-year war with Iraq was imposed on the country by executed Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein and under the auspices of Western governments, IRNA cited Wagenknecht as saying in an interview with German magazine, Juedische Allgemeine, on Saturday.

The German politician criticized the West’s “double standards” and argued that while Western powers put pressure on Iran, they turn a blind eye to the “blatant violation of human rights in Saudi Arabia” and maintain the “best economic, political and military ties” with Riyadh and other authoritarian regimes in the Arab world.

In recent months, a wave of revolutions and anti-government uprisings has swept the Arab world.
In reaction to the popular movements, the dictatorial regimes in the region have put violent clampdown on the protesters, killing, jailing and torturing thousands of them.

Wagenknecht also pointed to Israel’s efforts to instigate German officials to act against Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities.

In January, Israeli President Shimon Peres told the German parliament that Iran posed a threat to the whole world.
Wagenknecht argued that such remarks are aimed at rallying support for waging a war against Iran by resorting to “baseless claims” about Tehran’s nuclear program.

War is no solution to resolve the dispute over Iran’s nuclear program and will only bring about an “unspeakable” instability in the region.

Last year, the UN Security Council imposed the US-engineered sanctions resolution 1929 against Iran over allegations that Tehran might be developing a military nuclear program.

Following the move, both the US and the EU also imposed unilateral sanctions against the energy and banking sectors of the Islamic Republic.

Iranian officials refute such allegations and stress that as a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency and a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, Iran has a legitimate right to pursue peaceful nuclear technology.
