Iran warns against new resolution

Iran’s Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani warns an anti-Iran resolution will cause Tehran to completely distance its path from that of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

“If you issue a resolution, then our position towards you and the Agency will completely change,” Larijani said Wednesday.

“If you seek trickery, then we (lawmakers) in Majlis will change our position with regards to the agency,” he added without further elaboration.

The IAEA released a new report on Iran’s nuclear work on Monday.

While the report said that “the Agency continues to verify the non-diversion of declared nuclear material in Iran,” it called on Iran to increase its cooperation with the IAEA and abide by UN Security Council resolutions to suspend uranium enrichment.

The report said that more cooperation is needed “in clarifying outstanding issues which give rise to concerns about possible military dimensions to its nuclear program.”

Iran says it has been fully cooperating with the IAEA even far beyond its legal obligations. Tehran also says it has answered all questions regarding its nuclear work.

This comes as the US has intensified efforts to convince other UNSC members to join its campaign for imposing a new round of sanctions against Iran under the allegation that it is pursuing a military nuclear program.

Iran argues that it is entitled to the use peaceful nuclear technology as a signatory to the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty (NPT) and as its nuclear work has been under full IAEA supervision.
