Iran would consider possibility of NPT withdrawal

A Parliament National Security Commission has raised the possibility of a withdrawal from NPT.
Mohammad Hassan Asafari said that if West continued insistence on showing a false view of Iran’s nuclear activities, “we would counter.”

He also pointed to the disclosure of the sources for the IAEA reports against Iran, saying that “whenever IAEA inspectors decided to visit Iran’s nuclear facilities, Iranian officials cooperated with them, and even the cameras were installed by the agency that would put all of Iran’s activities under the international institutions view. So it would be a verification devise that Iran has no activities outside the designated area specified by IAEA as well as NPT framework.”

Stating that Iran activities have been under supervision and inspection of IAEA in the context of the NPT Treaty, Asafari said: “the fact that IAEA wishes to announce its report based on the Western sources, will not make it true reporting.”

“Western parties have always used excuses and raised issues against Iran that, neither of which have not been documented,” he added.

Asafari continued: “the latest IAEA report is [not acceptable] because of Iran raising the issue of; if it [IAEA] is supposed to supervise and control all our nuclear activities, and even our activities have surprised inspections, but it writes a report contrary to its own apparent findings, then it would not be approved or acceptable by Iran.”

“The Islamic Republic of Iran is determined from now on, to treat them with the language used by the West. Now if they are looking for showing Iran’s nuclear issue as contrary to the actual cases, which there are documentation for, consequently, we will have to deal with them accordingly,” he said.

He ended his interview with saying: “Surely if we will see this issue after presidential elections that they continue, not to recognize the Iranian nuclear issue, the subject of withdrawing from the NPT will be discussed.”
