Iranian animations compete at Indian festival

Five Iranian animations have been selected to represent the country’s screen industry at the first edition of Chennai International Short Film Festival in India.

Hadi Yaqinlou’s Why Doesn’t This Telephone Ever Ring?, Moin Samadi’s The Night Song and Mohammad Kandi’s The Borderline will be screened at the competition section of the festival.

Here Is the Money for the Fish directed by Ali Hosseinkhan and Morteza Ahmadvand, as well as The Kitten directed by Shiva Sadeq Asadi are to be presented at the non-competition section of the event.

The films have participated in a number of Iranian and international events so far.

Iran started the art of animation, as practiced in modern day, in the 1950s. Over the last few decades, Iranian animation has found international reputation.

Chennai International Short Film Festival kicked off on February 20 and will come to an end today, February 23.

According to the festival’s website, the aim of the newly established festival is to promote good meaningful short fiction, documentary and animation films.
