The Iranian Army unveiled a book titled Army’s ‘Self-Sufficiency Jihad in the Words of Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei’ in Tehran on Monday.
The book was unveiled in a ceremony attended by high-ranking Iranian military officials, including Head of the Supreme Leader’s Military Office Brigadier General Mohammad Shirazi, Army Lieutenant Commander General Mohammad Hossein Dadras and Iranian Air Force Commander Brigadier General Hassan Shah Safi.

Addressing the ceremony, senior Army Commander Brigadier General Khorram Toussi said that the Supreme Leader’s guidelines paved the way for the self-sufficiency Jihad which put an end to the country’s dependence and helped the country become self-sufficient in many strategic areas for which Iran previously needed foreign aid. “Accordingly the army that was fully dependent on foreign countries stepped on the path of self-sufficiency,” he added.

“Of course, the path of self-sufficiency Jihad is a lengthy and unending path; a path that has turned today into a medal of honor for the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Army,” he added.

Tehran launched an arms development program during the 1980-88 Iraqi imposed war on Iran to compensate for a US weapons embargo. Since 1992, Iran has produced its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles and fighter planes.

Yet, Iranian officials have always stressed that the country’s military and arms programs serve defensive purposes and should not be perceived as a threat to any other country.

Iran has recently made giant advancements in aerospace industries, specially in designing and manufacturing pilotless drones.
