Iranian Commander: Kurdish referendum ‘an American policy’

Brig. Gen. Massoud Jazayeri condemned KRG referendum noting that it is in line with US policies aimed at disintegrating the states in the region.

Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces underlined that Iran has proved its will in fight against terrorism and their supporters; “Brigadier General Bagheri’s recent visit to Turkey was also in line with these efforts,” he said.

“Islamic Republic also tries to uproot terrorism with cooperation of West Asia states and is taking steps in this regard to help this critical region to experience peace and stability,” Jazayeri said.

On Turkey’s shift of approach toward fighting terrorism in Iraq and Syria, General Jazayeri underlined that achievements made by Iraqi and Syrian governments in proxy wars made it clear for some countries that through terrorism and cooperation with US they would gain nothing.

“Iran and Turkey have border issues and need to cooperate in order to boost the border security; unfortunately some borders are transit points for terrorists and this has to be halted,” he stated noting Tehran-Ankara recent agreements on border patrolling.

“No doubt Iran is against the presence of terrorist groups in any country and its borders and would confront Takfiri groups as it has done in the past,” Army official warned.

He also condemned KRG referendum as an unconstructive move in the region in line with US policies of disintegrating the Middle East countries.
