Iranian DM Stresses Expansion of Defense Cooperation with Pakistan

Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami in a phone conversation with his Pakistani counterpart General Pervez Khattak underlined the necessity for the further broadening of defense relations and cooperation between the two countries.

During the conversation on Wednesday, General Hatami referred to the two countries’ common capacities in the economic, trade and defense fields, and said, “Using these common capacities will help the growth and development of mutual cooperation and consolidation and strengthening of peace and stability in the region.”

He also underlined that the crises underway in the region and Islamic countries, specially Yemen, do not have a military solution and should end through talks and by political means.

Khattak, for his part, expressed the hope that relations and cooperation between Tehran and Islamabad would further expand in different fields.

In relevant remarks late in August, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that Tehran was willing to further broaden ties and cooperation with the friendly and neighboring nation, Pakistan.

He added that relations between Iran and Pakistan are historic and friendly while people of the two countries are very close to each other.

During his two-day stay in Pakistan at the time, Zarif met with Prime Minister Imran Khan, his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Finance Minister Asad Umar.
