Iranian, Finnish Diplomats Discuss Closer Ties

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for American and European Affairs Majid Takht Ravanchi and Finland’s Under-Secretary of State for External Economic Relations Matti Anttonen held talks on a range of issues, including ways to promote relations between the two countries.

During the meeting held in Tehran on Monday, the two sides stressed the need to boost Iran-Finland cooperation in various spheres, economy in particular, in the new era after anti-Tehran sanctions are terminated.

For his part, Anttonen offered congratulations to the Iranian nation on the recent nuclear agreement with six world powers, also known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), saying that Finland is determined to develop economic cooperation with Iran, particularly in the fields of transfer of technology and investments in the country’s market.

He further announced that the Finnish Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Lenita Toivakka will pay an official visit to the Islamic Republic in the near future at the head of a 100-strong delegation of representatives of major companies in the Northern European nation.

The remarks come against the backdrop of a new wave of interest in ties with Iran after Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14 reached a conclusion over the text of a comprehensive 159-page deal on Tehran’s nuclear program.

The comprehensive nuclear deal between Iran and the six powers would terminate all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran after coming into force.

Experts believe that Iran’s economic growth would rise remarkably after the final nuclear deal takes effect.
