Iranian FM Reminds US of Failures, Useless Spending in Recent Wars

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif blasted US President Donald Trump for his remarks against Iran, reminding him of Washington’s failures and useless huge spending in wars in the region in past decades.

“For millennia, Iranians have outlasted every aggressor. But, the US has spent $7 trillion and rivers of blood in our region, in its biggest failure since Vietnam,” Zarif wrote on his twitter page on Tuesday.

He called on Trump to “reject the B_Team’s fake history and its thirst for forever war”, saying that diplomacy equals prudence and not weakness.

His remarks came after Trump tweeted on Monday that “just remember, the Iranians never won a war, but never lost a negotiation”.

Zarif had in the past said that a so-called “B-team” including Trump’s national security adviser John Bolton, an ardent Iran hawk, conservative Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Saudi and UAE Crown Princes Mohammed bin Salman and Mohammed bin Zayed could goad Trump into a conflict with Tehran.

The Iranian commanders have always warned of a crushing response to any aggression against the country.

In relevant remarks last Sunday, Major General Gholam Ali Rashid, Commander of Khatam ol-Anbia Headquarters, had warned of his country’s surprising response to enemies’ possible attack, stressing that costs of such an aggression would outpace its benefits for enemies.

“The (Iranian) Armed Forces’ firm and smart confrontation against threatening attitudes and hostile measures prevents the risk of enemy aggression against the Iranian territories and honorable nation,” General Rashid, Commander of Khatam ol-Anbia Headquarters, said in Tehran.

“The costs of such an aggression will be much more than its achievements,” he added, noting, “The dimensions of Iran’s defensive and offensive power will have surprising and incalculable costs for the aggressors.”

General Rashid expressed the hope that the US provocative moves would not endanger regional stability and security.
