Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani Rejects Claims about Iran’s Message to US via Turkey

Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani categorically denied the claims that Tehran has sent a message to Washington via Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, who paid a visit to Tehran earlier this month.

Speaking to FNA, the Iranian parliament speaker said that “Iran has not given any message to Turkey”.

“If Americans had had a dream or the Turkish friends had told them something that they (Americans) considered it as a message, they (Americans) must have misunderstood it,” Larijani reiterated.

The remarks by Larijani came after the US State Department said the United States has started consultations with Turkey on what Iran’s messages were during Turkish foreign minister’s recent visit to Tehran.

US State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland said in a press briefing that the US has seen some of the announcements of the results of Davutoglu’s visit to Iran primarily from the Iranian side.

She said US ambassador in Ankara had talks with Davutoglu and one of the subjects that they were discussing was a debrief on this trip.

The Turkish foreign minister visited the Iranian capital Tehran earlier this month and met with Iran’s Vice President Mohammad-Reza Rahimi before holding talks with his Iranian counterpart Ali Akbar Salehi as well as President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on mutual ties and the latest regional and international developments.
