Iranian plane catches fire on landing

At least 20 passengers on board an Iranian airliner have been injured as the plane catches fire while trying to land in the Mashhad airport.

The Taban Airlines passenger aircraft, which had departed from the southeastern Iranian city of Abadan, was trying to land at the airport on Sunday morning when its tail caught fire.

Initial reports indicate that at least 20 of the 157 passengers onboard have been injured in the incident.

Medics have reached the scene and the wounded have been transferred to three hospitals in Iran’s northeastern city of Mashahd, a city that attracts pilgrims all year round.

The plane’s fuselage, one of the wings and the tail section has burned in the fire.

Further information is not yet available concerning how the incident occurred.
