Iranian President reaffirms commitment to lofty goals of Imam Khomeini

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Tuesday reaffirmed commitment to lofty goals of Imam Khomeini. He urged Muslim unity vis-a-vis the enemiesˈ divisive plots.

According to IRNA, he made the remarks in a meeting with the foreign guests of departure anniversary of the late Imam Khomeini.
He admitted that the late Imam Khomeini promised democracy to the people both before and after culmination of the Islamic Revolution.
The President said that though the Constitution was drawn up by the Constituent Assembly whose members were elected in a national election, the late Imam Khomeini put the Constitution composed by the Constituent Assembly to public voting to see whether or not the people are accepting it.
President Rouhani said that the late Imam Khomeini told the people that he will respect the votes coming out from the ballot boxes and will respect the criteria internationally-recognized for the democratic elections.
Before the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Iran was ruled by totalitarian governments which were nothing but puppets in hands of colonial powers, the president noted.
President Rouhani added that today, Iranian nation with faith in God and under the guidelines of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei made big progress in all fields in the past three decades.
If Muslims get united, they can neutralize the enemiesˈ conspiracies, he added.
Meanwhile, President Rouhani met with foreign guests taking part in the departure anniversary of the late Imam at the presidential office this morning.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of Imam Khomeiniˈs demise.
