Iranian University Students Condemn Massacre of Hundreds by Nigerian Army

The Nigerian army attacked two religious centers of the country’s Shiite community on December 12, killing hundreds of defenseless civilians there. A few hours later on December 13, the military arrested Leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky after raiding his house and killing three of his sons, assistants and followers.

The Iranian students gathered in front of the UN mission in Tehran today to voice strong support for the oppressed Shiites in Nigeria.

They carried placards to condemn the Nigerian army’s attacks and chanted slogans to protest at the mass-killing.

The Iranian students were also accompanied by a number of foreign Muslim students who protested at the Nigerian government’s behavior towards the 20-million-strong Shiite community in the African nation.

Two days ago, Iranian worshipers in different cities across the country had also participated in rallies after the Friday prayers to condemn the mass killings of the Shiite Muslims in Nigeria, and called for immediate trial of the perpetrators of the crimes.

The Iranian protestors chanted slogans against the Nigerian army and condemned the military forces’ horrific crimes against the Shiite Muslims.

In the city of Tabriz, Northwestern Iran, the worshippers chanted slogans such as “The Nigerian army massacres Shiite Muslims” and “Sheikh Zakzaky Should be released”.

In the city of Mashhad, Eastern Iran, the worshippers held similar rallies to condemn the massacre of Muslims.

Similar protests were also held in other parts of Iran after the Friday prayers.
