Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian cautioned that the terrorists fighting against the Damascus government receive Israel’s uninterrupted support. “The continuation of crisis in Syria is linked to the interests of usurper Zionist regime of Israel,” Amir Abdollahian told reporters on Thursday.

The Iranian deputy foreign minister underlined the need for improving living conditions and promoting a political solution to the Syrian crisis.

Amir Abdollahian elaborated on Iran’s stance on regional developments, specially in Iraq, Syria, Bahrain and Yemen, and said consultations with Tehran on regional developments are based on a realistic approach.

In January, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif renewed Tehran’s full support for the Syrian government and nation in their war against the foreign-backed terrorists.

“Iran backs the Syrian government in their ongoing war against terrorism and extremism,” Zarif said in a meeting with his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin at the time.

The Iranian foreign minister underlined that dialog can play a vital role in fighting against terrorism.

Iran and Syria have had close ties in the past three decades. Syria was one of the most important partners of Tehran in war time with Iraq (1980-1988), during which Damascus closed the Iraqi oil pipeline carrying the country’s crude to the European markets.

Since 2011, after protests of some Syrian opposition groups turned into insurgency due to the meddling of certain western countries and their regional allies, Iran has been one of the main strategic partners of President Bashar Al-Assad’s legal government.

Iran has also held some conferences to find a peaceful way to end ongoing bloodshed in the Muslim country.
