Iran-Turkmenistan ties unbreakable

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has praised “unbreakable” Tehran-Ashgabat bilateral ties, calling for closer cooperation on nuclear disarmament policy.

“Big and constructive measures are on the agenda of both countries’ officials and both governments (Tehran and Ashgabat) are determined to implement joint ventures to improve bilateral ties,” Ahmadinejad told his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow in a Friday phone conversation.

Turkmenistan has sent a high-level delegation to attend the two-day conference titled “Nuclear Energy for All, Nuclear Weapons for None,” which will open in Tehran on Saturday, on April 17.

“By implanting independent and humanitarian policies, Iran and Turkmenistan can move towards dismantling weapons of mass destruction and ensuring world security,” Ahmadinejad said about the importance of attending the event in the Iranian capital.

In return, the Turkmen president expressed hope that the Tehran summit will prove effective in global disarmament.

Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov heads the high-level delegation from Ashgabat.

The delegation will also attend the tenth meeting of the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation between the two neighboring states while in Tehran.
