“The support extended by those powers which claim to be advocates of democracy to the anti-democracy behaviors shown in Ukraine, Egypt and Bahrain is worrying,” Jalili said in a meeting with visiting EU Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton in Tehran on Sunday.

“Unfortunately after the anti-human rights behaviors shown in Palestine, Afghanistan and Iraq, today certain powers are seeking to use terrorism and street wars instead of democratic mechanisms” in the aforementioned countries, the former top security official of Iran added.

Jalili described Iran as the trude model of democracy in the world, and added, “A popular system defends the values, rights and interests of the people powerfully.”

Bahrain has seen frequent unrest since authorities cracked down on the popular uprising against the ruling monarchy in 2011.

Human Rights Watch has accused the Bahraini government of violence and torture, with frequent reports of child protesters facing conditions which border on torture while in custody.

Human rights organizations have also accused the West of turning a blind eye to the crackdown.

Bahrain, a small island nation and home to the US Fifth Fleet, has seen tens of people killed since the Bahrain protests erupted, according to the International Federation for Human Rights. Hundreds more have been arrested.

Also, Egyptians are practicing democracy after years of US and West-backed dictatorship but the western countries haven’t yet let the North Africa country’s people alone to decide about their own fate.

In Ukraine, unrest erupted in November 2013, when now ousted President Viktor Yanukovych refrained from signing an Association Agreement with the European Union in favor of closer ties with Russia.

Then people took to the streets in opposition to the decision; but as the two sides came into terms and signed an agreement after several days, the US and the EU widened their interference in the country to topple Yanukovych’s government and bring to power a pro-western regime.

Russia repeatedly warned the West against meddling in the internal affairs of Ukraine and fueling the crisis in the country.

The continued meddling of the US-led West in Ukraine eventually made Moscow take a more active role in its East European ally.
