Iran’s Larijani warns against backing Syria terrorists

indirIran’s Majlis (Parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani has warned of the consequences of supporting foreign militants fighting against the Syrian government.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Press TV on Wednesday, Larijani said the foreign extremists operating in Syria might carry out terrorist acts once they return to their home countries.

“The US and some European and regional countries created this terrorist movement in Syria. Did they really gain anything from this movement?” he questioned, adding, “The flames [set off by terrorists] will burn the hands of those who created them.”

The Iranian parliamentarian made the remarks at a time when a number of Western officials have made similar warnings over the foreign-backed militancy in Syria.

They say the crisis-hit country could become a launching point for terrorists seeking to attack the United State among other countries.

Some reports say the al-Qaeda-linked militant groups operating inside Syria have already established training camps for their members to go back to their countries of origin and carry out terrorist acts.

Syria has been grappling with deadly violence over the past three years. Some sources say around 140,000 people have been killed and millions displaced since the foreign-backed militancy has erupted in March 2011.

The Western powers and their regional allies — especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey — are supporting the militants operating inside Syria.
