Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Hassan Firouzabadi said the country’s Armed Forces are profoundly concerned about the possible misuse and misinterpretations that the US officials might make about the contents of UN Security Council Resolution 2231 and the Vienna agreement between Iran and the six world powers.
“The Armed Forces have the most concerns about the impacts of the deal on Iran’s defense capabilities and they are concerned about the US officials’ misinterpretations from the post-nuclear deal sanctions,” Major General Firouzabadi said on Saturday.

He reiterated that today the most important issue and the main concern of the Iranian officials and people is Resolution 2231 and JCPOA.

Major General Firouzabadi pointed to Iran’s defense strategy, and said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran has never had and will never pursue the unconventional weapons use strategy, including use of the nuclear weapons.”

He said the US officials have tried to show Iran as a nuclear threat in a bid to provoke the Israeli regime for the sake of their own interests.

Iran and the six world powers held several rounds of talks in Geneva, Lausanne and Vienna before striking a final agreement in Vienna on July 14 to end a 13-year-old nuclear standoff.

After the agreement, the UN Security Council on Monday unanimously endorsed a draft resolution turning into international law the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) reached between Iran and the 5+1 (the US, Russia, China, Britain and France plus Germany) group of countries over the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program.

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has not publicly approved or disapproved of the deal.

Supreme Leader has told officials and experts to take legal procedures to ensure the other side does not breach it, saying some of the world powers involved were untrustworthy.
