Iran’s President, Bulgaria’s FM Discuss Bilateral Ties, Int’l Developments

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and the visiting Bulgarian Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov in a meeting in Tehran on Sunday explored avenues for boosting bilateral ties.

At the meeting, Rouhani said “conditions are now prepared for the further improvement of ties with the European Union, Bulgaria in particular.”

He described Bulgaria as a friendly country and a gate to the EU, saying the country can be an important route connecting Iran to the region and the EU.

“Tehran is now resolve to expand its political, economic and cultural ties with the EU member states,” Rouhani underscored.

Elsewhere, Rouhani pointing to a recent resolution approved by the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to close the so-called possible military dimensions (PMD) case in Iran’s nuclear program, and said the move by the board proved Iran’s commitments to its undertakings.

Also at the meeting, Mitov said Iran now plays a key role in the region and the world, and expressed his country’s enthusiasm to further boost mutual cooperation.

Bulgaria attaches great importance to its ties with Iran, he said, adding, “Sofia has always been after improving its age-old friendly ties with Iran.”
