Iran’s Salehi urges completion of Iranian projects in Comoros

myriam20130707070258687Iran’s Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has stressed the importance of accelerating the implementation of Iranian projects in the African island nation of Comoros.

Describing the relations between Iran and Comoros as positive, Salehi on Sunday expressed hope that Tehran’s projects in this African country would be completed soon. He further called for the expansion of bilateral trade, cultural, scientific, technical and economic ties between the two countries.

Salehi arrived in Comoros on the second leg of his three-nation tour of African countries.

The Iranian foreign minister voiced Tehran’s readiness to share its experiences in the field of health and infrastructures with Comoros.

Referring to the lack of sufficient electricity infrastructures in Comoros, Salehi said Iran seeks to resolve the African country’s electricity and fuel problems by using solar cells and wind turbines.

Comorian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Bacri, who welcomed Salehi at the airport, expressed hope for the expansion of bilateral ties between Iran and Comoros.

The top Iranian diplomat left Tehran for Zimbabwe’s capital, Harare, Thursday on the first leg of his trip.

A central plank of Iran’s policy is to enhance relations with African nations on all political, economic and cultural fronts.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has always made efforts and plans to pave the way for fundamental, practicable and sustainable cooperation with African countries,” Salehi pointed out in late May.

He said that Iran and African countries have numerous potentialities to boost reciprocal ties, and called for the removal of obstacles to the promotion of mutual economic cooperation.
