Iran’s top general hails meteoric progress in IRGC Navy’s capabilities

Iran’s top military official has lauded the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) naval force for reaching a commanding level of capability that befits the superior status of the country’s Islamic Revolution.

“Today, we can [confidently] say that the Corps’ (IRGC) Navy has reached the level [of capability] that equals [the lofty status of] the [country’s] Islamic Revolution,” Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Mohammad Baqeri said during a speech in the holy city of Mashhad on Wednesday.

“Over the past four years, we have witnessed advancements as well as extraordinary and glorious enhancement of the capabilities of the Corps’ powerful Navy that have boosted the Islamic Republic’s deterrence power compared to the past,” he asserted.

The progress has featured “remarkable” improvement of the IRGC Navy’s vessel development, missile, and drone sectors, he hastened to add.

The top military official referred to precision-guided naval cruise missiles and efficient seaborne unmanned aerial vehicles as some of the military hardware that the IRGC possesses today owing to domestic research and scientific endeavors.

The IRGC Navy tows a brilliant history of confronting the Islamic Republic’s enemies, whether during the 1980-88 war that was imposed on the country by Iraq or in the face of American aggressors in the Persian Gulf.

He noted that the Islamic Republic’s military had reached such a status of strength and deterrence power despite years of brutal sanctions and the so-called “maximum pressure” campaign against Iran.

The military official considered the level of security that currently prevails throughout the Persian Gulf, the Hormuz Strait, and the Sea of Oman to be higher than any other period in history.

Besides providing security in the strategic region, the Corps’ Navy has also been successfully accompanying the Iranian Navy in overseas’ missions, the commander said, appreciating the two forces’ coordination and partnership.
