Iran’s Zarif discusses Rohingya plight with Malaysia, Indonesia FMs

In separate phone calls with Malaysia’s Sri Anifah Aman and Indonesia’s Retno Marsudi‎, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif voiced Tehran’s deep concern over the grievous situation of Muslim people in Myanmar.

The Iranian top diplomat also called on Muslim states to pay more attention and take practical measures to end the unfair and inhumane violence against Rohingya Muslims.

Zarif further stressed Iran’s readiness to provide any kind of help and contribute to adoption of collective measures by international bodies and Islamic countries toward the prevention of the ethnic cleansing in Myanmar.

The Iranian foreign minister also held a telephone conversation with Turkey’s Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu on Monday during which the two sides exchanged views on the latest humanitarian crisis against the Rohingya Muslims and discussed some measures and solutions for the delivery of humanitarian reliefs to the oppressed Muslims of Myanmar.

According to the UN statistics, over 400 Muslims have been killed in the past week after the Burmese forces shored up crack-down against Rohingya Muslims who take up around one million of the population. Since 2012, more than 168,000 Rohingya have fled mostly to Bangladesh due to widespread persecution by Myanmar security forces.
