Iraq bomb attack kills 41, wounds 106 pilgrims

Forty one Muslim pilgrims have been killed and 106 others wounded in the Iraqi capital city of Baghdad as they were on their way by foot to the holy city of Karbala in central Iraq.

A female suicide bomber blew herself up at a rest station in Baghdad on Monday, AFP quoted an army spokesman as saying.

Major General Qassim Atta, spokesman for Baghdad operational command, added that at least 38 pilgrims were also injured in the blast.

“At 11.45 am (0845 GMT), a woman wearing an explosives-filled belt blew herself up in the middle of a crowd of pilgrims going to Karbala,” said Atta.
