Iraq bombings, shooting kill 34, injure dozens: Security officials

Iraqi security officials say at least 34 people have been killed and dozens of others injured in bomb and shooting attacks carried out in six different regions across the country.

The bomb attacks were carried out in the provinces of Baghdad, Kirkuk, Salahuddin, Anbar, Diyala and Nineveh on Thursday morning.

An Iraqi Interior Ministry official said 17 people were killed and 63 others wounded in and around the capital Baghdad.

Nine people were killed and 24 others injured in bombings carried out in the northern province of Kirkuk, police officers said.

In addition to Baghdad and Kirkuk, three people were also killed in bombings in the city of Samarra in Salahuddin province.

A police source in the central city of Ramadi in Anbar said one person was killed and nine were wounded in two car bombings against police patrols.

An Iraqi military official also said a police officer was killed in a bomb attack in the provincial capital city of Baqouba in Diyala. Two policemen were also killed and two other people were wounded in a car bombing against a police checkpoint in the city center.

Also in Diyala, a policeman was killed by gunmen in the town of Mansuriya, north of Baqouba.

Police officials in the provincial capital city of Mosul in Nineveh said three people sustained injuries in a bomb attack carried out in a restaurant.

The Thursday attacks in Iraq were carried out a few weeks after Iraqi officials announced that at least 50 people were killed and scores of others injured in bombings and shootings conducted in several cities, including Baghdad, on March 20.
