Iraq’s Kurdish forces have made their way into Sinjar in the northwestern part of the country, as they proceed with their advances against the ISIL terror group.

“The Peshmerga forces have entered the town of Sinjar. They are now carrying out a crackdown and an inspection campaign in the center of Sinjar,” Saeed Sinjari, a member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, told Kurdish broadcaster Rudaw, on Saturday.

The development comes two days after the Kurdish forces succeeded in breaking a months-long siege by the ISIL militants on Mount Sinjar.

The liberation of Sinjar opens a humanitarian corridor for the hundreds of Izadi Kurds who have been stranded in the Mount Sinjar area.

The ISIL terrorists had captured the town of Sinjar in early August. They killed hundreds of residents, kidnapped and enslaved hundreds of Izadi women and girls, and forced tens of thousands to seek refuge on Mount Sinjar.

Rudaw further reported that Kurdish forces discovered 70 bodies in a mass grave in Mount Sinjar which are believed to be Izadis killed by the ISIL.

Sinjar, which is located between the border with Syria and Iraq’s ISIL-controlled city of Mosul, is one of the main goals of the operation by the Kurdish forces which started on Wednesday with the aim of disrupting the supply lines for the terror group and further isolating Mosul.

The ISIL terrorists control some parts of Syria and Iraq. They are engaged in crimes against humanity in the areas under their control. ISIL militants have terrorized and killed people of all communities, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, and Christians.
