The Omani foreign minister has hailed the recent conclusion of negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries over Tehran’s nuclear program, saying the talks marked a turning point in global diplomacy.

Following 18 days of marathon talks in the Austrian capital city of Vienna over Tehran’s nuclear program, Iran and the P5+1 countries – the United States, Britain, France, China and Russia plus Germany – reached a conclusion on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on July 14.

IRNA cited reports as saying on Thursday, Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, who was talking to Omani Media, said the Vienna agreement came as a result of “soft” diplomacy and commitment to constructive talks based on mutual interests.

The Omani minister, whose country hosted a round of nuclear talks between Iran and the six world powers, said that there is no room for a diplomatic mistake in today’s world, underscoring respect for mutual interests as a requisite for global convergence.

He further called for the settlement of problems facing the region with a view toward the Vienna agreement as an example.

Alawi expressed hope that the crises in Iraq, Syria, Yemen and Palestine would be resolved through diplomatic channels and based on mutual trust.
