Chairman of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq has called for close cooperation among world countries to counter terrorism, saying that the so-called US-led coalition against ISIL Takfiri terrorists will fail without Iran.

Ammar al-Hakim voiced regret that Iran was not invited to the international conference in Paris earlier this week on coordinating the fight against ISIL, describing attempts to exclude Iran from the campaign against the terrorists as doomed to failure, IRNA reported on Friday.

Hakim further underlined that the Islamic Republic of Iran is fighting terrorists and is considered an important and pivotal player in the Middle East.

The senior Iraqi official also denounced efforts to exclude Iran from the fight against ISIL, stressing that his country will not let down its friends and allies.

Iraqi President Fuad Masum says Iran should have been invited to the Paris conference.

Highlighting Iran’s role in fighting against terrorism, the Iraqi leader said he had told French officials that Iran’s presence in the coalition against terrorism in the region was necessary.

Despite the international community’s emphasis on the importance of Iran’s role in the regional developments, Tehran was not invited to the meeting in Paris mainly due to opposition from Washington.

The United States has also announced that Iran will not be a part of its so-called coalition against the ISIL.

The ISIL terrorists control large parts of Syria’s east and north. ISIL also sent its Takfiri militants into Iraq in June, seizing large swathes of land straddling the border between Syria and Iraq.

The Takfiri terrorist group has committed heinous crimes and threatened all communities including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, Christians and Izadi Kurds during its advances.
