Iraqi Hezbollah Leader: US Deployment in Region Aimed at Supporting Terrorist Groups

“We have several times said in the past that the US deployment in the region is aimed at supporting terrorism and leading the barbaric groups in line with the US and the Zionist regime’s interests,” al-Ka’abi said on Saturday.

“Generally, the existing plots in the region are all aimed at materializing the goals of the ominous American-British-Israeli triangle,” he added.

Referring to the US insistence on the deployment of its forces and proxies at the Iraqi-Syrian borders, Ka’abi said that Washington wants to prevent the resistance forces from retaking control over these regions and continue support for the terrorists.

Syrian militants declared in May that Washington has increased its arms supplies to them in order to block Iraq’s pro-government Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) from creating a supply route between Iraq and Syria.

The PMU, also known as Hashd al-Shaabi, reached the Syrian border in May during their anti-ISIL operations being carried out to the West of Mosul.

They have played a major role in the liberation of ISIL-held areas to the South, Northeast and North of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, ever since the Takfiri terrorists launched an offensive in the country in June 2014.

A leader of one of the militant groups operating under the US-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) underlined in May that there has been an increase in foreign military support.

“There’s no way we can let them open the Baghdad-Damascus highway,” Tlass Salameh said.

A commander of another militant group operating with the FSA also announced that since earlier in the month a steady flow of weapons had been arriving at their base.

“The equipment and reinforcements come and go daily … but in the last few weeks they have brought in more heavy military vehicles, TOW (missiles), and armored vehicles,” he added.
