IRGC Blasts Cooperation with US Missile Shield Project as Naive Move

A senior commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) rapped certain regional states for joining the US and Israeli missile deployment project in the Persian Gulf, calling it a naïve move.

“Joining the missile shield project in the Persian Gulf actually means certain regional states are naively stepping into the operational phase of the Zionist regime and the United States’ plot in the region,” Commander of the IRGC’s Second Naval Zone Ali Razmjou told FNA on Tuesday.

He described the project as a plot hatched to guarantee the survival and security of the Zionist regime, and said, “We hope that the countries located on the Southern rims of the Persian Gulf take a deeper look at issues and realize that the US will not remain loyal to them.”

Razmjou reiterated that the US which has numerous military bases in the region seeks to protect them against Iran with Arab money and deployment of a new missile shield in the region.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in April promoted the missile shield idea at a Persian Gulf-US security forum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. US officials have, in provocative comments, alleged that it is their “priority” to help the six Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) states build “regional missile defense architecture” against Iran.

Washington has been seeking hard to portray Iran as a threat to the regional states, specially the Arab countries on the rims of the Persian Gulf, but many Arab leaders in the region stress that they do not see Iran as a threat.

Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi in relevant remarks in April called on the neighboring states to avoid joining the US-Israeli missile shield project.

“This missile shield (in the Persian Gulf) is a US-Israeli project and everyone should pay attention to the fact that anyone who gets involved with this project is, in fact, implementing the US and Israel’s plot,” he said.

“Since the very beginning we have rejected this project as we saw it detrimental to regional security, and we have recommended our friends not to enter such fields (of activity),” Vahidi noted.
